John Galliano Takes on Mentoring Role

Having secured his place properly in the ranks of fashion history, John Galliano now plans to pass on the secrets of his success to a new generation of designers. Galliano’s camp has just announced he has been named the new honorary chairperson of London’s Fashion Fringe program, an initiative that supports emerging British design talent. The responsibilities of his new role include helping to judge the next two Fashion Fringe competitions, in 2010 and 2011, taking over from predecessor Donatella Versace.

In 1991, Peter Lindberg shot an iconic cover for American Vogue. It featured all the supermodels of the day; Lindy, Cristy, Cindy, Naomi, Tatjana among them. And they were all wearing black leather biker jackets and little pleated skirts, by Versace.
Something of that edgy, urban, girlie glamour, mixed with the whiff of danger, was at the heart of the collection the young British designer, Christopher Kane, delivered for Versus, the now-revived younger line at the house of Versace.
Milan fashion show to launch with tightened schedule

After New York and London, Milan picks up the thread of the international fashion circuit Wednesday with a tighter schedule for the main shows to meet the needs of buyers and journalists.
Several thousand buyers from around 40 countries are expected in Milan as well as 2,000 journalists. Many of them will then move on to the Paris shows, which stretches over nine days, from March 2 to 10.
Models aren’t smart – Donatella Versace

Donatella Versace says models are “rarely” intelligent.
The legendary fashion designer has blasted modern catwalk stars, insisting they are no match for supermodels such as Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista and Cindy Crawford.
She is bored with fashion houses trying to appear high brow, stating most models just want to have fun in fancy clothes.
“There is an idea of neutrality in models now. Little make-up, no expression, like a robot… That is very stupid. It is almost as if the models have to have the appearance of something serious, to give an intellectual base, but they themselves are rarely like that,” Donatella told Love magazine.
