Fashion Week Chief Fern Mallis Leaves IMG

IMG senior VP Fern Mallis, who helms Fashion Week, is stepping down to start her own consulting company! She’s calling it Fern Mallis LLC, and today is her last day at IMG. Mallis has been Fashion Week’s planner since the event began eighteen years ago, when she was executive director of the CFDA. She said the move had been a long time coming. “When we were planning the move to Lincoln Center, it felt like closure, like the end of the cycle,” she told WWD.
New York Men

Designers and industry bigwigs are contemplating the possibility of holding a Men’s Fashion Week in New York, WWD reports. Menswear is regularly shown in the Big Apple during the fashion weeks held in September and February, and mixed in with the numerous womenswear shows. But menswear designers say that debuting their collections in September–three months after Milan and Paris hold their Men’s Fashion Weeks–is bad for business.
“I’m very proud to be an American designer,” Thom Browne explained. “But we do have to sell in a true selling season of men’s in order to get production started. Getting sales done in June and early July is really important from a production standpoint….It means getting the next collection done two months earlier, which isn’t easy. And even sooner, actually, because we have to get everything and everyone there.”

After six years as designer, Mr Pilati’s position at the classically elegant French brand is the latest to be dogged by the fashion rumour mill. His last collection at Paris Fashion Week earlier this year received mixed reviews from the fashion press, although there’s no denying his foxy shoes and handbags remain a huge hit (Pilati’s previous position at YSL – while Tom Ford was in charge of the brand – was head of accessories).
Milan Has Full Fashion Week

Italy’s biggest designers are spreading their shows out over seven days at the next Milan Fashion Week to ensure press and buyers stay in the city.
Some of the world’s largest and most influential fashion labels including Giorgio Armani and Prada have united to distribute their shows evenly across a full week, meaning the biggest shows aren’t condensed into three days and smaller labels will have a chance of being seen.
Plus Size Fashion Week Makes A Comeback

For the second year in a row, New York will host Full Figured Fashion Week from June 16th to June 19th. According to a press release for the event, in addition to runway shows, there will be a panel series for plus-size models and fashion insiders — one focusing on “The State of the Curvy Community” and one specifically geared toward aspiring models — as well as a day-long shopping tour of Manhattan’s most fashionable plus-size stores.
