NY Fashion Week’s New Look

NY Fashion Week's New LookWWD reveals a first look at the new facade for New York fashion week. This September, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week will have a new home.

On Thursday morning, executives from IMG Fashion, which owns Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week; Lincoln Center; the Council of Fashion Designers of America; Mercedes-Benz and, the City of New York unveiled details of the new tents, which will be inaugurated during the spring 2011 collections from Sept. 9 to 16.

Guests will enter the tented lobby through a new facade created by architectural firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro. The entrance and facade, which is 60 feet wide and 70 feet high, will be located in the corner between the Metropolitan Opera House and David H. Koch Theater. The lobby will feature sponsorship areas, digital signage and seating areas for visitors.

Fashion Week Chief Fern Mallis Leaves IMGIMG senior VP Fern Mallis, who helms Fashion Week, is stepping down to start her own consulting company! She’s calling it Fern Mallis LLC, and today is her last day at IMG. Mallis has been Fashion Week’s planner since the event began eighteen years ago, when she was executive director of the CFDA. She said the move had been a long time coming. “When we were planning the move to Lincoln Center, it felt like closure, like the end of the cycle,” she told WWD.
