Alexander McQueen to launch men’s underwear

One of Alexander McQueen’s last design projects, a men’s underwear collection, is set to launch in June, the brand revealed today. The designer had been working on a collection of boxer shorts and briefs bearing his signature skull prints as well as all over feather prints inspired by his final menswear offering.
The collection will include basic underwear, sleepwear, loungewear, a seasonal fashion range and — for summer 2011 — swimwear, WWD reports. The range will be distributed by Albisetti SpA which also produces underwear and swimwear for John Galliano, Roberto Cavalli and Jil Sander.

Alexander McQueen’s ashes to be scattered on Skye

Fashion designer Alexander McQueen’s ashes are to be scattered on the Isle of Skye, it has been revealed.
The 40-year-old regarded the island as his ancestral home and his family are planning to travel to the island in the coming weeks.
McQueen’s brother, Michael, told the Sunday Times: “He made it clear his wish was for his ashes to be scattered on Skye, where our family comes from originally, and we are going to honour that.

Jospeh Ettedgui, designer who made the high street sexy, dies at 74

Described by Christian Lacroix as “perhaps the only one to have made natural and successful alchemy between hard-nosed business and avant garde art”, the fashion designer Joseph Ettedgui has died in hospital in London aged 74.
Ettedgui founded the Joseph label in 1972 and went on to open more than 20 shops in the UK and abroad.
US fashion designers pick McQueen for NYC honor

The fashion world has announced one more tribute to designer Alexander McQueen.
McQueen, who died in an apparent suicide in London last month, will receive the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s special board of directors honor at the industry’s annual celebrity-studded gala this summer. The announcement was made Wednesday.

Demi Moore praises McQueen

It’s been about a month since the passing of Alexander McQueen, a man universally regarded as one of the most important designers of our times. Friends and fans have not stopped praising the late fashion designer in his wake; actress Demi Moore is the latest famous face to discuss his legacy.
“McQueen was a genius,” Moore told Harper’s Bazaar. “I was always thrilled to wear his clothes because they were more than fashion; they were truly works of art.”
