The Geordie singer caused a stir with a range of eye-catching outfits during the last series of The X Factor, when at times she appeared to be competing with Dannii Minogue in the flamboyant fashion stakes.

Designer Henry Holland said: “X Factor was my fashion moment of the year because of Cheryl. She wore Giles Deacon, Marios Schwab and Richard Nicoll. She was flexing her fashion mojo.”

Fellow judge Minogue was named sixth best dressed woman in the list compiled by Glamour magazine, but her sister Kylie – until now a permanent fixture in the ranking – failed to make the top 50.

She was replaced by fashion newcomers including eccentric pop star Lady Gaga, award-winning songwriter Florence Welch and actress Anna Friel.

R&B artist Rihanna’s bold style propelled her to second place in the list, while US Gossip Girls actress Blake Lively took third position.

Meanwhile, fashion stalwarts Victoria Beckham and Kate Moss both tumbled down the top 10, being overtaken by actress Leighton Meester and TV presenter Alexa Chung.

At the other end of the scale, Katie Price topped the list for the worst dressed woman and the worst dressed couple, thanks to the efforts of her new husband Alex Reid.

Twilight star Robert Pattinson was named the best-dressed man, while Cole’s estranged husband Ashley did not get a look-in in the top 10 men.
